Comet

Comet was twenty-three years of trust, built one ride at a time. A bright chestnut Quarter Horse with a white blaze, he was patient with beginners and brave on the trail, and he always, always came when I called across the pasture.

He taught a generation of kids at our barn how to sit tall and be gentle. He loved peppermints, summer mornings, and the long way home. The pasture is quieter without his whinny at the gate, but I still look for him there.
